The first time you start JXCirrus Maths, you will be prompted to
set up some initial exercises. If you want to go back at a later
date and change the exercises, press the button
on the toolbar.
The best way to figure out how something works is to try an example. In our example, we are going to set up:
So here goes...
If that all made sense, click on Next to go to the next page of the manual. If you want to know more about setting up exercises, then keep reading.
When you select , the Exercise List page will open. This
page shows the list of exercises, and how often they will be run.
The buttons on the toolbar are:
The exercise list itself shows the following:
This dialog lets you set up how each exercise is run.
This lets you choose between:
Depending on which of these you choose, some of the other labels may change.
For times tables and division, this lets you select which times
tables to complete. You can do more than one times table in an
exercise (just tick more than 1 box).
When you change parts of the exercises, the label automatically changes to summarise what you are doing. If you want to give it a special label, just type it in here.
NOTE: This field gets automatically filled when you change the
exercises, however, if you make a change to the field yourself, it
will remember that value. If you want to go back to the automatic
values, just use the button to the right of
the field.
This changes meaning depending on what type of exercise you have chosen:
Exercise Type | Label | Meaning |
Times Tables | Multiply between | If you have selected 4 times tables, and multiply between 1 and 12, then the questions will be: 1x4, 2x4, 3x4, ..., 12x4. If you change this to between 10 and 20, then the questions will be: 10x4, 11x4, 12x4, ..., 20x4. |
Division | Division by numbers between | If you have selected 4 times table, and division is between 1 and 12, then the questions will be: 4/4, 8/4, 12/4, ..., 48/4. If division is between 10 and 20, then the questions will be: 40/4, 44/4, 48/4, ..., 80/4. |
Addition | Addition between | If you select 10 and 20 as the range here, the exercise will pick numbers between 10 and 20, and then find 2 other numbers that add up to that. For example, it might pick 12 (which is between 10 and 20) as the answer, then pick the question as 5+7. |
Subtraction | Subtracting from numbers between | If you select 10 and 20 as the range here, the exercise will pick numbers between 10 and 20, and then pick numbers to subtract from that. For example, it might pick 12 (which is between 10 and 20), and then make a question 12-7. |
Repeat Incorrect |
None |
There is no range for the "Repeat Incorrect"
exercise. |
This lets you select whether you want the questions asked in random order or in actual order. Some examples:
For Times Tables and Division, this defaults to "In Order". For addition and subtraction, it defaults to "Random".
This lets you set how many questions to ask. It defaults to 12 for Times Tables and Division, and 15 for Addition and Subtraction.
The "Repeat Incorrect" exercise is a special type of exercise
available for the premium version of JXCirrus Maths.
JXCirrus Maths will remember all of the questions that you got
wrong during the session, and you can then repeat those questions
as a special exercise at the end. This helps you
tackle questions that you often get wrong.
